Two minutes, mom

Lately with Joey, everything has been "just a sec" or "just a minute." Like the other day she woke up and said "I want to watch a movie for just a minute." Now, it's two minutes. She told me this morning that she wanted to "go lay down for two minutes, mom." (not that she wanted to lay down at all)

Venting

So I need to vent really quick. I am so tired of someone in this house always being sick. A couple weeks ago it started with Joey catching a microplasma that's been going around our town. So she got put on antibiotics for that. A couple days later, I caught it from her. A couple days after that, Ty got a cold (again). Then last Saturday Joey started saying her ears were hurting her. So we took her in on Monday and she has ear infections in both ears and a sinus infection. So this doctor put her on a strong antibiotic to hopefully kill everything off and get her well again. She is already definitely feeling better, so that's good.
Secondly, I am sick of gas prices!!!! I know you guys outside of California probably hate gas prices, but here, we are paying 3.85 a gallon!!!!!! They said by mid-summer it could hit 4.50 a gallon. That is ridiculous. So it looks like all of Ty's raise will be going to gas. Ok, so not all of it, but still!

Wanted Man!!

So Ty's now a wanted man. The Navy is after him as well as the Chief of Police. And he hasn't done anything wrong. They all want his brain! He called the Navy up this week to tell them that he's not accepting the job and not to expect him on Monday, and they called back and said fix your resume to say this (then told him what to say on it) and then they'd get him a job on the base in the contracting area. That's different from the internship he was going to go into because this would be a straight on hire. So he's going to do it and see what comes next. Man, I just wish that the whole job situation was over already. I wasn't preparing for a second round of this, however, I do not think it will be as bad as a couple weeks ago.

We started looking at houses today. Well I started looking while Ty was at work. We (my mom, our Realtor, Joey, my niece and I) saw like 5 or 6, and I only really liked the layout of one of them. They built houses here in the 70's that are just weird! I don't know what they were thinking. And the lots are really small. The average size lot in Ridgecrest is currently like .15 acre or something like that. Then they take this tiny lot and build a huge house so you have no back yard to play in. And I think they are trying to be kid friendly because they are building 4 bedroom 2 or 3 bath houses on these. It just doesn't make sense to me. So no luck yet on a house, but that's ok because we aren't going to be ready to put an offer on one until the car is taken care of.

Forced Vacation...

As a forewarning.... it's a long story

So for those of you who don't know what exactly we do out here in California, well, Ty is the city's Budget Officer/Accountant. I am a Nursing Assistant. Anyway, so Ty's job has steadily gotten worse since he started since his boss never shows up and throws all kinds of crap and responsibility on Ty that he wasn't trained for or expecting. This has led Ty to look for a new job for a while. We had one lined up for a couple months now and have been preparing for it because it is a pay cut for a few years, but when he ends the program, he'd come off pretty well. So that's why I went back to work. Anyway, he was due to start the position on the Navy Air base on April 14, so Ty turned in his two weeks notice on Friday March 28 and started the longest 6 days of our lives!!!!! Here's what happened-
That whole day, Ty had been with his boss (he was actually there trying to straighten out a mistake he made and blamed on Ty). Well during the day his boss(FDH for finance department head) tells him that when he retires in July, that the assistant city manager (ACM) wants Ty to take over as the finances Department Head. Well this intrigued Ty, but as that wasn't a firm offer and no paper work was written, and ACM had never told anything to Ty, he decided to turn in his resignation anyway. I should stop quickly and tell you that Ty was going to leave it on his desk at the end of the day so no one would have to put up with FDH because we knew he'd react badly. So FDH left early, but when Ty left, he put his resignation letter on FHD's desk, and a copy on HR's desk. On his way out the door he told a couple people that didn't know it was coming (several ladies he worked with were glad he's getting out of his crappy situation). One of those people was ITDH (IT department head), who happens to be friends with FDH. Well at like 6:30 we got a call from FDH, but Ty doesn't answer his work cell phone on weekends. He left a message saying that he had just talked to ITDH and wanted to know what's going on. Well later that night FDH called again and left a message questioning Ty's integrity and saying that it just shows Ty's true character and crap like that. So Ty emails FDH back trying to explain that he was doing what's best for his family and they exchange a few emails that day about Ty's decision.
The next day at church, Ty didn't show because Joey was home sick, but I know that if he had, there would have been a confrontation with him and his boss... I think I had forgot to mention his boss is in our ward and used to be a good family friend of mine. During sunday school some friends of our were saying how he was making all these comments about how you should talk to people and how you should raise you childern and crap, and they said it's was so against what they knew had been going on over the weekend. Anyway, back to the story, so some more emails were exchanged as we were trying to pacify his boss. Finally that night at about 10:30 he got a message from FDH saying that Ty is being forced on vacation for the next two weeks and isn't to show up to work. We started freaking out because we didn't know if it was legal and because Ty had three weeks of vacation we were planning on cashing out to tie us over until the car issue is settled.
Monday morning FDH was saying that as DH (department head) he is forcing Ty on vacation to protect the department. Ty responded saying "from what? what did i do wrong?" That was the last email exchanged. Later that day Ty was wondering if FDH had frozen Ty's email because Ty wasn't receiving any emails that day (he usually gets 5 or 6 even on his flex monday's, which this day is). He decides he is going to go in early on Tuesday and talk to HR (human resources) and find out if what FDH did was legal, then go up to ACM and at least have his exit interview and tell ACM what's going on.
Tuesday he goes to work and finds out that FDH had ITDH completely lock Ty out of the system. He can't even sign on his computer. So Ty takes his personal stuff from his office, and goes down to talk to HR. She told Ty that if what FDH did was legal, that the city would have to pay for it, but she'd talk to ACM to confirm the legalities of forced vacation (side note of ACM, he's the city's current Police chief, so he'd be able to find out). Ty had her talk to ACM and set up a meeting with him. After talking to HR, he went home. HR called him later and told him that his meeting with ACM was set for 1 that afternoon. During his meeting with ACM that afternoon, Ty found out that ACM had been meaning to talk to him about being a part of his head team when he takes over as City Manager. When he found out that Ty turned in his resignation he was going to talk to Ty on Tuesday, and when he found out that Ty had been forced on vacation, ACM was really upset with FDH. Anyway, ACM told Ty that what FDH did was legal, but there was no precedence for it. He also counter offered Ty a job with a 5% pay raise starting the new pay period and the DH job when FDH leaves. So Ty told him he had to discuss it with me, and he'd get back to ACM. So that evening we went to my parents hot tub to soak and relax and discuss the choices. So Ty went in on Wednesday and told ACM thanks but no thanks because Ty knew he wasn't ready for the DH position, and he didn't want to set himself up for failure. That's when he found out that ACM, among everything else he is, is a CPA and would be able to help Ty out if he needed it. He also said he completely understood that Ty hasn't been receiving the training he needed, so he came up with yet another offer. Ty could stay at the city, physically move his office out of finance to admin--side note, Tuesday when FDH came to the office, he was sent immediately to ACM's office. When he got out of that meeting, he went around slamming doors and yelling, and took off shortly there after. Not what Ty is wanting to work with for two weeks, let alone three months. So they offered to move Ty out of finance and into admin, give him a substantial pay raise, give him the assignment of making sure the budget was finished on time, and after that, he'd spend the next year to two years getting the training he would need to become dh of finance. So Ty worked the rest of Wednesday and kept thinking of the new proposal. I knew he was finally feeling good about what's going on because that day he ate 2 meals! He hadn't eaten two meals in one day since Friday because he was so stressed out. He was thinking that night that he'd take the offer, but wanted to see how he still felt when he woke in the morning.
So Thursday morning come and he still feels good about it, so when he had his meeting with ACM, he accepted the job. He will be turning down the job on base here on Monday (they had a flex day today, so no one was there and he wasn't going to turn that job down until he had signed papers). FDH came in on Thursday. Around lunchtime I was heading to pick Ty up to go to McDonalds with the girls (I had my niece that day) and he called while I was en route and said that he'd have to meet me there. So when he came he said that FDH had called him into his office to apologize to him. I was stunned because this was totally out of character of him. But it also didn't make up for what FDH did. Anyway, today Ty was shown where his new office (to be called in the future- "The Cave" since there are no windows in the office).
So things are going ok for us now after our very very long week. We are going to start looking around for a house. We won't be able to take any real vacations until after the budget is done, but then we plan on relaxing. Hopefully when Ty will have to go to the conferences for his training for DH, he'll go somewhere cool and I'll be able to go as well!
